Racecars
While I was in college pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, I became fascinated with the artwork on racecars, when I would go to nearby Maple Grove raceway. Thus I began to teach myself how to letter and airbrush. Naturally as I practiced and practiced I got better and better. Requests for my work continued to grow to the point where I began painting signs, racecars, boats, trucks , and anything that didn’t move full time. As the years passed by , vinyl began to infest the sign business and diminish the demand for hand lettered racecars. Now vehicle wraps have devolved the art even more. I still letter racecars by hand with paint, brushes and airbrushing. When considering lettering a Racecar, one should consider the year and style of the car. Painting was the only option for the model years of many of these cars. When done by hand, each car has its own unique look. It reflects the style and skill of the artist doing the work. Many times gold leaf is a perfect look on racecars. This is also a lost art in the sign business. Fortunately, this look cannot be duplicated with vinyl, even though there is gold leaf vinyl. The skill required to gold leaf is special , and when performed correctly has a timeless look. Airbrushing is also a unique look for racecars. I specialize in airbrushing chrome on these cars. Airbrushing chrome, headlites , grills and other car accents goes a long way in keeping down the weight of the car as well as the aerodynamics. Check out the following photos of my work and see for yourself. You can bring your car to me, or I can come to you.
